“Access denied” Recently, Representatives of the Moldovan Orthodox Association “Blessed Mother Matrona” posted an open letter to His Beatitude, His Holiness Aleksey II, the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia in support of archbishop Diomid of Chukotka and Anadyr Diocese of Moscow Patriarchate on the various web sites as well as Ukraina Shengenskaia.  We made suit to His Beatitude to answer all the questions of public concernment in front of a public, on television or other means of mass communication. Orthodox people called upon His Most Eminent Beatitude Patriarch Aleksey to stand up and be counted. We wished His Beatitude to solve problems hurting and bewildering people of God. Priests of various Orthodox rites from various churches did not get desired answers.  Authors of the open letter got immediate as well as unexpected answer as soon as we posted it. We got the answer from completely different side having nothing to do with the whole affair. “CIVILIZED” CATHOLICS COME AND SEE “BARBARIAN” ORTHODOX

If you trace the history back you will observe Byzantium paid a special attention to unification between Eastern Orthodox Church and the heretical Pope of Rome. A special attitude towards unification in question is justified and is understood because Michael VIII Palaeologus (1259-1282) expected from Pope Urban IV (1261-1264) to help him conduct the policy of The Byzantine Empire. Though, Michael’s attempts to capture the Pope’s attention got the frozen mitt on the part of the patriarch Joseph I (1267-1275). Patriarch was faithful to his Emperor until the moment he refused to make any contribution to unification. Patriarch swore solemnly that he would never sign an agreement on unification with the heretical pope.  He would never acknowledge pope’s authority because he did not live by Holy Tradition, Holy Scripture and Church Canons. Pretensions with regard to unification were as follows: Every cleric should make a public Oath of Faith before pope; Catechization of people should be performed in accordance with faith of pope of Rome; Showing distinct preference for “Filioque” ( Latin word meaning “and from the Son” ) being the Symbol of Faith which makes a creed state that the Holy Ghost proceeds from the Son as well as from the Father; Pope should be considered to be a servant of god, appointed by god. “For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (I Corinthians 1, 18). If we look at human history from the beginning until nowadays we can observe 2 pieces of wood that marked all its development. First is the knowledge tree of good and evil from the paradise, and the second is the Cross on which was crucified Our Savior, Jesus Christ, first seems to have life, but brings death, the second seems to be dead, but brings life. The wood of the tree from paradise brought death to the human, removed Adam from the paradise and all human beings, made humankind gratify all the pleasures, the cravings of sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts, made the human learn what means hostility, suffering, pain. But, wood of the Cross, brought him eternal life, took him back into paradise, made the human to leave “the skin wear” and to comprehend that body can be transfigured, made the human to acknowledge and appreciate God’s love, that can be reached thru effort, suffering, renunciation. Syncretism- a new religion

The ethnographer Aura Arriola from Mexico describes in her book “Religiosity of people in the south of Mexico”, the religious syncretism as a normal thing for inhabitants of this territory. Shamans, the pagan rituals, scarification of animals, catholic and Gospel rituals- all these interfered with natives’ life. The author of this monograph studied 10 years the problem of the religious character of the Southern part of her country. She states:” All these faiths create a palette of colors in the soul of people from Mexico and Guatemala”. Regardless the fact that the official religion of this territory is Catholic, shamanism is a natural element for native people. Inherited techniques from their ancestors in communicating with spirits and the treatment with medical herbs are their basic occupations. An interesting fact is that a lot of people, who go to church on Sunday, during the week visit magicians, make rituals to purify the soul and get cured by applying shamanist techniques. “Shamans are considered intermediaries between the dead and the living. Who is not curious to know what will happen after death? In this way “prophet’s” door are never closed”, Arriola lets us know.
